Damai Primary School: moving to Tampines North, and P1 registration

For parents thinking of moving so their child can apply as a near-school resident. Damai Primary isn't taking Primary 1 registrations for now: it's moving to Tampines North. Below: what MOE has said, and how many places and applicants there were in the last years it took a P1 class.

MOE's figures from SGSchoolKaki's ballot history. Phase 1 figures and the group that balloted weren't available for these years.

What this means if you're moving for Damai Primary. MOE is moving Damai Primary from Bedok to the Tampines North area, tentatively in 2029, with an MOE Kindergarten (MK@Damai) opening alongside it. There is no P1 registration for it in the 2025, 2026 and 2027 exercises, and its first P1 class at the new campus is due to start in 2029, registered through the 2028 exercise. The Bedok campus stays open until 2030 for pupils already there.

When registration reopens in the 2028 exercise, the 1 km and 2 km bands will be around the new campus in Tampines North, not the current one in Bedok. Homes near the current campus won't be near the new school, so check the new site's details with MOE and on OneMap before you buy.

Buying near the school

Registering from a home you've just bought

MOE uses the parents' NRIC address to place a child in a distance category. It also accepts the address of a home you've bought but haven't moved into yet, under these conditions.

A new launch (not yet completed)

  • The home's vacant possession date in your sale and purchase agreement must be within two years of your child starting P1. MOE doesn't accept the probable completion date.
  • You undertake to move in within two years of your child starting P1, and send the school a copy of the sale and purchase agreement during the phase.
  • If the address gets your child priority, you must live there for at least 30 months from the day you move in.

A completed home (resale)

  • You can register while the purchase is going through: for a private home, send the exercised option to purchase and the buyer's stamp duty certificate; for an HDB flat, the resale application status from HDB.
  • You undertake to live there from the start of your child's P1 school term.
  • You must then live there for at least 30 months from the start of P1.

If the 30-month stay isn't met, MOE transfers the child to another school of its choosing. MOE also checks for addresses used only for registration. Rules from MOE as at October 2026; always check moe.gov.sg in your registration year.

Which registration year can use a new launch address?

Worked out from MOE's own example (children registering in 2026 need a vacant possession date no later than 31 December 2028).

Questions people ask me

When can I register my child for Damai Primary again?

In the 2028 Primary 1 registration exercise, for children starting Primary 1 in 2029.

Does a home near the current Damai Primary campus count?

Not once it moves. When registration reopens, the 1 km and 2 km bands are measured from the new campus in Tampines North, so check the new site on OneMap before you buy.
